Functional Acknowledgements

A Functional Acknowledgement (also referred to as a 997 transaction) confirms that an EDI transaction has been received by a trading partner and indicates the time and date of receipt. This section covers Transaction Manager Functional Acknowledgement related processes.

Sending Functional Acknowledgements

If the trading partner indicates that it wants to receive functional acknowledgments, Transaction Manager automatically creates and sends a functional acknowledgment to that trading partner when it receives a transaction. Conversely, if the trading partner indicates that it does not want to receive functional acknowledgments, Transaction Manager does not generate them.

Besides handling outgoing functional acknowledgments, Transaction Manager also handles incoming functional acknowledgments, which are acknowledgements that your trading partner generates for transactions that you sent.

Receiving Functional Acknowledgements

When Transaction Manager receives a functional acknowledgement, it tries to match it with a transaction in its Sent folder. If it makes a match, Transaction Manager updates the transaction's Acknowledged column with the functional acknowledgement date. Conversely, if Transaction Manager cannot make a match because the transaction was deleted, it places the functional acknowledgement in its Inbox folder.

NOTE

This number matches the Functional Control Number found on the EDI tab of the transaction in the details view.

In addition to handling incoming functional acknowledgements, Transaction Manager generates outgoing functional acknowledgements for the transactions that are received.
